Meta has decided to end support for WhatsApp on older Android phones.
Despite the fact that phone manufacturers present new models every year, there is a certain number of users who change their devices much less often – every few years.
The number of those who use phones that are 8-9 or more than ten years old is also smaller. Such devices usually cannot install newer versions of operating systems or do not receive security updates. It often happens that they also lose support for using popular applications.
This is the case with a certain number of older phones, which from January 1, 2025 will no longer be able to support WhatsApp.
Meta has decided that phones that are older than 10 years and still run Android KitKat will no longer support the increasingly sophisticated features and artificial intelligence options that WhatsApp is constantly implementing.
Among the phones that will lose support for WhatsApp are: Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3 and Galaxy S4 Mini; HTC One X, One X+, Desire 500 and Desire 601; Motorola Moto G (1st generation), Razr HD and Moto E 2014; Sony Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T and Xperia V; as well as LG Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini and L90.
Meta previously did the same for iPhone models running iOS older than version 15.1, so WhatsApp is no longer supported on iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
If you are using one of the listed phones, you should back up your WhatsApp data to a newer device. Otherwise, all your photos and videos, as well as chat history, will be deleted starting January 1st.
