If the announcement of the newly elected US President, Donald Trump, that he will take over Greenland comes true, Ukraine will have an obligation to defend the island from the Americans with its military forces.

Such an obligation for Ukrainians arises from the bilateral security agreement signed between Denmark and Ukraine in 2024. According to the agreement, the two countries must help each other in protecting their borders and sovereignty.

The newly elected US President, Donald Trump, said that it is absolutely necessary for the United States to take ownership and control of Greenland for, as he stated, national security and freedom around the world. However, Trump did not specify whether this would be done by military means or whether he plans to buy Greenland from Denmark.

Experts note that the conflict over this Danish island “could become the shortest war in history.”
