Ukraine has turned to the administration of President Joe Biden with a request for help to locate targets in Russia that Kiev could strike with its own weapons, the Wall Street Journal reported last night, citing sources in the White House.
It was not only about weapons systems, but also additional assistance for striking Russian military personnel, said the Chief of the General Staff of the United States Armed Forces, General Charles Brown.
Also, Kiev asked Washington to allow the use of American weapons for strikes on the territory of Russia.
The request comes after Russia took advantage of a delay in US arms shipments to allow its forces to make a breakthrough in the Kharkiv region in what has become Moscow’s most successful operation in a year and a half.
Kiev’s request made last week is still being considered.
If the United States satisfies Ukraine’s request, it will indicate serious changes in the policy of the American administration, which seeks to reduce the risk of escalation between Washington and Moscow while supporting Kiev, the publication points out.
According to a source in the White House, the United States does not support the initiative of the Ukrainian side – We do not encourage and do not allow strikes on the territory of Russia, said John Kirby, director of strategic communications at the National Security Council in the White House.
