The most dangerous Facebook habit that can cost you privacy: Quizzes may be fun, but dangerous!
Seemingly harmless quizzes on social media, which many consider to be fun, can pose a serious risk to your privacy and security.
How does the trap work?
Cybercriminals create quizzes that ask for information like your date of birth, pet name, favorite color, or food. While this data may seem insignificant, when combined with public information from your profile, criminals can:
- Create a complete profile of you.
- Launch attacks on your accounts.
- Steal your identity.
What could happen?
Quizzes often require access to your Facebook profile, contacts, photos, or messages, which further increases the risks. In 2019, Facebook sued two developers who misused data from more than 63,000 users through such quizzes.
How to protect yourself?
- Avoid online quizzes: The best way to protect yourself is to simply not participate in them.
- Check the quiz and the developer: Before participating, review the privacy policy.
- Privacy settings: Review the permissions for apps that have access to your profile.
- Change your security question answers: If you have used quizzes with similar questions, change your answers immediately.
- Restrict personal information: Don’t share your phone number, address, or other sensitive information.
- Enable 2FA or MFA: Add extra protection to your online accounts.
- Report suspicious quizzes: If you come across a quiz that seems suspicious, report it.
Remember
You don’t need a quiz to tell you what superhero powers you have. Your online safety is more important than any social media fun.
