Tens of thousands of Iranians at Raisi’s funeral in Tehran

Tens of thousands of Iranians gathered this morning in central Tehran to pay their respects to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash.

People gathered around the building of the University of Tehran, where the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will lead the prayer at the funeral ceremony.

Raisi and seven others died on Sunday. Among the victims was the head of Iranian diplomacy, Hossein Amir Abdolakhian.

The helicopter carrying Raisi crashed while returning from East Azerbaijan province. Raisi has been the president of Iran since 2021.
