TCL 60XE NXTpaper 5G: A phone with seven-day battery life for just $199

TCL 60XE NXTpaper 5G unveiled at CES 2025, brings NXTPaper technology with up to 7-day battery life and a price of just $199
At this year’s CES 2025, TCL unveiled a device that could change the smartphone market – the TCL 60XE NXTpaper 5G. This phone, currently intended for users in the US and Canada, combines an impressive battery life of up to seven days and an affordable price of just $199.

Revolutionary NXTPaper technology

The secret to this device’s outstanding autonomy lies in TCL’s patented NXTPaper technology. Although it resembles E Ink, NXTPaper is not electronic paper, but an FHD+ LCD screen with layers that eliminate reflections and reduce blue light emission. This technology allows the screens to look like magazine pages, providing a pleasant visual experience.

However, there is a trade-off: NXTPaper screens are less bright and consume less power. The phone has a physical button to turn on NXTPaper mode, which allows users to choose between maximum battery saving and classic mode. When NXTPaper mode is always on, the battery lasts up to seven days, while in stand-by mode this period is extended to an incredible 26 days.

Hardware Specifications
The TCL 60XE comes with respectable hardware that includes:

50MP main camera and 32MP front camera,
256GB internal storage with expandable storage,
8GB RAM, expandable up to 16GB.
TCL has managed to integrate these specifications into a device priced at just $199.

Limitations and the future of NXTPaper technology
It is important to note that the TCL 60XE uses NXTPaper 3.0, while a new version, NXTPaper 4.0, is coming later this year with the TCL NXTPaper 11 Plus tablet. This improved version uses nanomatrix lithography to further reduce reflections without compromising image quality, but it is not yet known when it will be available for phones.

The TCL 60XE NXTpaper 5G has the potential to become a hit among users looking for long-lasting battery life, an affordable price, and solid performance. How this device will cope with the competition and the real needs of users remains to be seen. One thing is certain – TCL has set high standards for 2025.
