A storm hit the eastern United States today, threatening millions of people with blizzards and some areas with the heaviest snowfall in a decade, US meteorologists said.
More than 60 million people are in the path of the storm, which is expected to blanket the eastern half of the United States with Arctic air by tomorrow and cause major travel disruptions.
The National Weather Service warned of the risk of ice, snow and strong winds from western Kansas to the coastal states of Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.
The service warned that areas from northeastern Kansas to north-central Missouri will see “the heaviest snowfall in a decade.”
Scientists believe that extreme weather conditions are becoming more frequent and severe due to human-caused climate change./MIA
