A tiny but powerful fruit – the cranberry – may hold the key to preserving memory and preventing dementia! Researchers from the British University of East Anglia have discovered that daily consumption of cranberries may be the key to improving memory, slowing the development of dementia, and even reducing “bad” cholesterol, writes “B 92”
The study followed 60 healthy subjects for 12 weeks, with half of them consuming cranberry powder daily, while the other half received a placebo. The results were surprising – the subjects who consumed cranberries showed a significant improvement in memory in everyday events, better blood circulation in the brain, and even a reduction in “bad” cholesterol levels.
Dr. David Vauzour, the study’s lead author, says this is one of the first studies to examine the long-term effects of cranberries on cognitive function and brain health. The results are encouraging and could pave the way for future research into the effects of cranberries and similar berries on brain health.
Cranberries are known for their ability to fight free radicals in the body, thanks to antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, as well as flavonoids. They’re also rich in fiber, which can help promote healthy digestion and maintain a healthy urinary tract.
