Flooding in Sydney

Heavy rain caused flash flooding in Sydney today, prompting at least 13 rescue operations by Australian emergency services.

In addition to those operations, emergency services received 297 calls for help from Sydney residents in 24 hours, and ten emergency evacuation orders were issued in the city’s northwestern suburbs, the New South Wales Emergency Service (SES) said.

SES Assistant Commissioner Dallas Burns said there was “still a lot of water moving” and urged the affected population to be prepared to evacuate.
