Users who do not pay a WeTransfer subscription with the new upgrade will be able to transfer up to 10 files with a total size of up to three gigabytes per month.
The very popular service for sending large files over the Internet, WeTransfer, has changed its offer and updated certain limits for subscription packages, and the changes also affect those who use the service for free (which, we believe, are the majority).
Maximum 10 transfers
The new usage policy came into effect on December 16 without much notice, and according to the new terms, a limit was set on the number of free uploads during a month, with an increased limit on the size of uploaded files. According to the new rules, all free users have the opportunity to make a maximum of 10 transfers per month, with a total size of up to 3 GB.
In addition to this new limit, WeTransfer has also introduced several novelties for users who do not pay subscriptions. The most significant of them is the increase in the limit for a single transfer, which can now be “heavy” and up to 3 GB (instead of the previous two). Additionally, free users now have access to files uploaded there for collaboration and review, all transfers can be password-protected in the free version, and those who sell files through the service have had their 5% platform fee waived.
New subscription plans
The changes also affected the subscription options. The basic Starter subscription costs $6.99 per month and allows you to send files up to 300 GB, with the same limitation as the free option – a maximum of 10 transfers with a total size of 300 GB are allowed over 30 days. The more expensive Ultimate option costs $25 per month and includes everything previously offered by the Pro and Premium subscriptions – usage without any restrictions.
Monthly limits will be calculated for all plans on a rolling basis, meaning that the counter will not reset for all users on the first of each month. Instead, all limits apply to the past 30 days and are calculated for each user/subscriber based on their activity.
Existing subscribers to the old plans (which cost $15 and $25 respectively) will be moved to the new, most expensive option, but will have the option to cancel their subscription or switch to the new, cheaper Starter plan. All of these changes come after WeTransfer acquired Bending Spoons in July of this year, which laid off 75% of its employees shortly thereafter.
