A five-meter-long python has swallowed a woman in central Indonesia. The woman was found dead in the stomach of the python, local authorities announced today.

The 45-year-old woman’s husband and residents of Kalempang village in South Sulawesi province discovered her on Friday in the body of a reticulated python, Beta reports.

The woman, a mother of four, went missing on Thursday evening and a search has been launched for her. Locals searched the area and quickly spotted a “big bellied python”. They decided to open the snake’s stomach and found the dead woman inside.

Such incidents are extremely rare, but in recent years there have been other cases in Indonesia of people being swallowed by pythons. Last year, residents of the Tinangea district in southeastern Sulawesi killed an eight-meter python that strangled and ate a local resident.

In 2018, a 54-year-old woman was found dead in the stomach of a seven-meter long python in the town of Muna, in southeastern Sulawesi. In West Sulawesi, however, in 2017, a four-meter-long python swallowed a villager on a palm oil plantation.
