Many of us go through life not paying attention to our feet, but if we have cold toes or a sore on our feet that won’t heal, these can be signs of certain diseases. From signs of fungal nail infections to others, a lot can be seen if we take a close look at our feet.
“We need to monitor the health of our feet, including our nails, as it can affect our general health and be a sign of serious health problems,” warns pharmacist Noel Weeks to The Mirror. He claims that heart disease and diabetes are among the most serious problems our feet can detect.
Worryingly, the signs of diabetes in the feet can be vague and easily overlooked, the expert explains. He recommended looking out for the following warning signs in the feet: pain, loss of feeling in the feet, cracked and dry skin, blisters and sores that won’t heal, fungal infections (including yellow and thickened nails), and athlete’s foot.
Also, peripheral artery disease is a common condition caused by the accumulation of fatty deposits in the arteries, restricting blood flow to the leg muscles. It is also known as peripheral vascular disease.
The service’s website states: “Many people with peripheral artery disease have no symptoms. However, some develop painful discomfort in the legs when walking, which usually disappears after a few minutes of rest. “Both legs are often affected at the same time, although the pain may be worse in one leg.”
