More than 1,000 people have lost their lives in a devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar, as rescuers continue to desperately search for survivors under the rubble.
According to local authorities, bridges were destroyed, numerous buildings were destroyed, and roads were blocked in large parts of the country. The worst damage was seen in Mandalay, the second largest city, where the highest number of casualties was recorded.

Authorities said that 1,002 people had been confirmed dead so far, while 2,376 were injured. They said that the figures were not yet final and that data on damage and casualties was still being collected.
American seismologists say it is the strongest earthquake to hit Myanmar in 100 years. The quake was so powerful that its effects were felt hundreds of miles away in Bangkok.
In the Thai capital, rescuers worked all night to search for workers trapped in a collapsed 30-story skyscraper that collapsed into a pile of concrete and metal in seconds.
