10 dead in Los Angeles fires

At least 10 people have died in wildfires in Los Angeles County. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna fears the death toll could rise as the fires are brought under control and rescuers can comb through the rubble.

There are five active fires. The good news is that the winds have dropped, which gives firefighters a chance to get the fires under control. The cause of the fires is under investigation. The flames have consumed 10,000 homes and structures, as well as more than 58 square miles of land. Some residents have returned to the places where their homes were until the other day.

John Carr, 65, a resident of Pacific Palisades, defied the evacuation order and saved his home. The house was built by my mother and father in 1960 and I’ve lived here my whole life, so there are a lot of memories here and I think I owed it to them to try my best to save it. Some things in life are worth fighting for.

Pacific Palisades is an elite neighborhood that was the first to be devastated by the fire. 5,300 homes and buildings burned. A man has been arrested on suspicion of trying to start another fire near Pacific Palisades. Large-scale robberies were registered in the evacuated neighborhoods. At least 20 people have been arrested. Authorities decided to deploy the military to the streets to protect property from robberies and announced a curfew.
